Duval County Esol Program In Broward

Grantee Name: Duval County Public Schools Project Name: Transition to Teaching in Duval County Public Schools: 'Leaving No Teacher Behind' Project Director: 904-390-2502 Partner Districts/LEAs: Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) The Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) Transition to Teaching Program will recruit mid-career professionals, recent college graduates, and eligible paraprofessionals to teach in the district's high-need schools. The project will target the high-need subject areas of reading, mathematics, science, ESE, ESOL, and elementary education. DCPS has developed partnerships with Florida Community College at Jacksonville (FCCJ), University of Florida (UF), and the University of North Florida (UNF) to provide multiple routes to achieve full teacher certification. The DCPS and UF partnership provides a year-long Urban Elementary Education apprenticeship program that allows eligible candidates the opportunity to receive on-the-job training and on-site coaching in a co-teaching setting while they complete their certification program. The FCCJ and UNF partnerships offer certification programs that provide accelerated preparation for eligible pre-service candidates and new teachers holding temporary certificates. The project will expand and enhance existing DCPS alternative certification programs through the addition of an intensive summer cohort and increased focus on retention through strategic mentoring activities.

In Broward County, 119 teachers weren’t hired by the first day of school. In Hillsborough County, about 150 teaching slots were vacant. Miami-Dade schools started about 100 teachers short. Answer: The only program Duval County has is the dual language program and the rest are ESOL sheltered for the children in need. How many students are in bilingual education programs? What grades are included? Thank you for showing interest in an important emphasis of lifelong learning: adult literacy. The purpose of this booklet is to provide you with a 'guide' to help you answer questions that will enable you to make an impact on literacy in your community: • What exactly is 'literacy'? • How do we get started? • How do we keep.

The development and implementation of on-going professional development for principals and leadership teams will provide tools to grow a school-based culture of support for new teachers. The Transition to Teaching: The program will prepare a total of 306 teachers (Year 1:26, Year 2:64, Year 3:108, Year 4: 108). No Teacher Left Behind project will also enable DCPS Human Resources Services to streamline hiring processes for highly qualified teacher candidates and offer attractive recruitment incentives such as job sharing and early hire timelines. Grantee Name: School Board of Broward County Project Name: Project PROMISE: Partners Responding with Options furthering the Mission to Increase Success for Educators Project Director: 954-236-1326 Partner Districts/LEAs: Broward County Public Schools Project PROMISE creates a model alternative certification center that will serve as a comprehensive resource for all alternative certification candidates in Broward County Public Schools. The project provides a coordinated plan to deliver model alternative preparation and professional certification routes to 375 quality mid-career professionals and recent college graduates, to teach in Broward's high-need schools in the critical subject areas of elementary education, English/language arts, mathematics, science, social science, and special education. Project PROMISE garners support from the effective partnerships formed among Broward County Public Schools, Florida Atlantic University, Nova Southeastern University, the non-profit agency Workforce One, and IBM. Project PROMISE will offer non-traditional college credit options with financial assistance to participants delivered in an accelerated format for undergraduate and graduate college credit.

Collaborative curriculum development with the District and university partners will offer graduate-level reading courses through the District's Virtual University enabling the participant to earn graduate credit towards a master's degree.
