Crash Crash Rattle Rattle Beep Beep

I'm a little hunk of tin. Nobody knows what shape I'm in. I've got four wheels and a running board. I'm not a Chevy, I'm a Ford Honk honk rattle rattle rattle crash beep beep. You can support our project for as little as £5. Mike Abel gained a degree in illustration from art college, but has always drawn for himself, just the way he wants to. He messed about in the mediums that he wanted to use making mistakes and learning from them along the way. His illustration reflects this delightfully anarchic experimentation and an almost obsessive attention to detail. He draws inspiration from graphic novels, cartoons, comics and, of course, The Muppets.

Stretching our goal by £1,000 will help us to take our Honk! Roadshow to five libraries in Dumfries and Galloway (Scotland) and gift a copy of Honk! To each of the 117 primary schools in our region. AND there's more.

But it's all still a secret for now. We'll let you in on it as we get closer to our goal. Thank you for your time and all of your support. Renita and Mike. A note from Renita: Honk! Has been a collaborative project from the very beginning and not just between Mike and I.

In April of 2012, I took part in a delightful but daunting challenge to write a poem and post it on my blog every single day for the month. Not content to do this by myself, I invited my facebook friends to a 'Prompt Party'. Every night they would supply a variety of subjects to write about and I would choose one to write about the next day.

When one of my friends suggested a campervan, I asked them all what they would like me to put in it. I included everything I could in the poem, added an old silly song and drew a rough sketch of the camper. You can see the original post. I asked my very talented friend Mike if he'd like to do an illustration of it for me.

He turned my rough blog sketch. Here is Mike Abel signing his wonderful artwork While you are busy pledging, Mike will be busy finishing his illustrations. The story and illustrations are universal in appeal.

However, much will be particularly familiar to the people who live in Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland. Mike and I are very proud of our region. We are neighbours in Wigtown, Scotland's National Book Town, hive of creativity and home to the internationally renowned Dumfries and Galloway, in which it sits, is known for it's beauty, wildlife, festivals, culture and arts as well as the Belted Galloway (see cow in Mike's drawing above.) It is also home to a population of people given to a generosity of spirit that is both deeply humbling and inspiring.

You can get a feel for the region from the FB page of. Mike at work on Honk! It was recently my privilege to serve as the Reader in Residence for Dumfries and Galloway Libraries. What a wonderful year. I was privileged to tell stories, teach others to tell stories, help people to write their life stories and a myriad of other things to encourage people in literacy. I can think of no better way to celebrate the conclusion of my post than to create a book that is universal in appeal while celebrating our region; will continue to encourage the love of story, literacy and togetherness.

There is a lot of work to do. Risks and challenges We are imagining the day when we reach our crowdfunding goal and can know for certain that Honk! Will become a picture book. Once our crowdfunding campaign deadline is finished and the funds have entered our account, we will do the last bits and pieces necessary to send our book to the printer. We will need to have all of the dedication names and logos before we can go to print. We are hoping to have the book in hand and ready for delivery (along with everything in the fun packs) in March- in time for World Book Day.
